NorthWood Panthers took the lead late and defeated Goshen 2-1 on Wednesday for a share of the NLC Title.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Matt Dutkowski struck out five, while Joey Peebles sat down four. Each pitcher only gave up 3 hits on the night.
Goshen got things started in the second inning when Peebles doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. NorthWood’s biggest play of the night came on a RedHawk flyball to right. Sophomore Jaden Miller throws out the tagged runner from third at a play at the plate to end the inning.
NorthWood Panthers knotted the game up at one in the top of the sixth inning, when Peebles’s wild pitch allowed one run to score for NorthWood. It would essentially be the same story in the 7th with a Panther run coming home on a passed ball.
Dutkowski was credited with the victory for NorthWood. He allowed three hits and one run over seven innings, striking out five and walking one.
Peebles took the loss for Goshen. He lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out four and walking zero in a stellar performance.
Kyler Hauptli, Payton Bear, and Sawyer Warren each collected one hit to lead NorthWood. NorthWood Panthers Varsity was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.
