NorthWood Panthers defeated Angola 4-3 on Wednesday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at three with NorthWood batting in the top of the eighth when Payton Bear singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
In the top of the 3rd, an Alec Holcomb single and a Jaden Miller walk would lead to a Brant Mast single, scoring one. Angola would then close the frame down 1-0.
Angola would tie things up in the bottom of the 4th when Honer doubled to left center. Angola would score one but the go-ahead run was thrown out at the plate on a relay from Holcomb to Sawyer Warren to Hunter Warren to end the inning.
The Panthers would take a 3-1 lead in the top of the 5th. NorthWood would have runners on 3rd and 2nd with 2 outs. On a passed ball/wild pitch, Sawyer Warren would score from third. Brant Mast would also come home when the throw back to the pitcher would go down 1st baseline.
Angola would chip away and knotted the game up at three in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Chance Roddy doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Matt Dutkowski earned the win for NorthWood Panthers. He surrendered three runs (two earned) on six hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking zero. Alec Holcomb threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Holcomb recorded the last three outs to earn the save for NorthWood.
Brant Mast led NorthWood Panthers Varsity with two hits in three at bats.
